    Re: Prop2 Development Update

Just hedge your efforts. If that means using a PIC in the interim then do it.

The design attempts have been going on for six years plus now with no end in sight.

Over the decades I learned one...

    Re: Propeller OS?

Got to agree CPM was a OS, even though some look down their noses at it as junk. At the time people ran their businesses with it. Heck CPM - the 68K variant became the basis for Atari ST OS and still...

Re: An Alternative P2 Design Discussion

Instead of asking Parallax and Chip to indulge your pet ideas with their time and money which seems rather crass, why not simply implement them in Verilog and test them out. Look, Parallax has...

Re: An Alternative P2 Design Discussion

    Cluso99

There is nothing stopping you or anyone else from prototyping a new design in verilog. You don't need Chip or Parallax. Just use the P1 verilog code as a baseline and work out from there....

You don't need much in the way of math and science to do repairs or building things.

  6. Re: Mach 5 Future Jet Can Fly Anywhere in the World in 4 Hours

Setbacks are common on the bleeding edge of aerospace, expect more of them and more deaths. There was a reason that governments used to bankroll these programs.

    However Sabre engine(if it ever...
  7. Re: Mach 5 Future Jet Can Fly Anywhere in the World in 4 Hours

It's all theory right and marketing hype now, it will take 5+ years just to develop a prototype engine(provided they have a team that is already experienced designing bleeding edge propulsion...

Re: Windows update from FTDI killing clone chips.

    You miss the point JMG.

That software was meant for real FTDI devices, not a cheap knock-off micro masquerading as one pf FTDI's and sold by thieves to greedy little people in the West. If the...

Re: Windows update from FTDI killing clone chips.

    Nonsense,

There is a serious reading and ethics comprehension issue with the hacking community. For some twisted reason most of you think that a semiconductor house like FTDI is responsible FOR...

Oh please stop with the sanctimonious whining. Look it's only going to hammer those sleazy vendors who ordered these clones from China because they could get them super cheap.

    Re: Parallax's FPGA board

$500 and maybe $100 to $200 for a add-on board to do what a Terasic DE2 does, pretty much puts in the hands of professionals only.

    Electrodude

The Prop is a non player on the Stamp board/DIY scene. Parallax doesn't officially offer a StampBasic on the Prop for obvious reasons - it would eat into BS2 sales. The fact is a lot...

I sort of agree with you. Chip should have had a P-1.5 out a long time ago(say 2010) to show people that the Prop wasn't just a one-off micro, Instead we have to wait until probably mid 2015...

Re: Can an FPGA P1 ever be cost-effective?

I've given up on Parallax ever putting out a time frame for the P2. If I see working silicon before 2016 I'll be elated, but if they take longer, it's fine too. It's their company and they can do as...

    Thoth,

As a recent purchaser of a BeScope, thank you for your efforts, I won't be wasting time with the scope part.

The next FPGA board I'll buy will be from Terasic, not Arrow.

  22. Re: Can a Crowdsourced chip be developed from the P1 Verilog Code?

Yeah if you want to nitpick, but for a while stack based processors and Forth were almost synonymous. Of course today it's not that way anymore.

Re: Question: Propeller architecture in ? family?

Ultimately it doesn't matter what language(tool) you use as long as you're productive with it and have fun doing it. For some it's Forth, for others it's assembly, Pascal, etc.

    I like Forth but...

Re: Question: Propeller architecture in ? family?

Given that industry has not embraced the Prop, there is little indication that a stripped down Prop would fare any better in the realm the $1 ARM and ASIC alternatives,
