GPS Communication/Hardware Failure

When we run the GPS program on a laptop, before the program loads, there is a popup that comes up saying Communication/Hardware Failure. We are using BASIC stamp editor V2.2.6. This problem only occurs with the GPS because we are able to light up LED's and run other programs without error.
However, this problem only seems to occur on a laptop. We have tried to troubleshoot the problem by using a PC. On the PC, the program and GPS work properly and there are no communication/hardware failures.
We need help to solve this problem because we need to use the laptop.
***We have been using the demo version of the program that is provided on the GPS page on the parallax website****
If there is anyone that can providee us with information to help us troubleshoot, it would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a power problem. The GPS module takes quite a bit so you may need to power the board or the module with an external power supply

Agreed...power is most likely the problem here. How are you powering the board? Which board are you using?

We have tried differrent forms of powering the board and neither have worked on the laptop. We are using a Parralax Professional Development board and are using a BS2 stamp.
Like I said before, the program runs on a regular PC, but does not even communicate on our laptop.

    Thanks

Are you communicating with the PDB via the USB mini or through the DB-9 connector? I intermittently encountered the "Communication/Hardware Failure" while communicating via the USB mini and was able to resolve the problem by adding another virtual COM port.
