Project Idea for class

Gentlemen:

I have a group of 9 students that need ideas for a class project. In the past we have had sumobot challenges, robot race challenges and a robot course challenge. We would like to do something a little different for this class. All students receive a complete BOE-BOT kit and the "Whats a microcontroller?" text. I have suggested an IR / RF remote option, or maybe a poormans mars rover. The project can be individual or as a group. This particular class is wanting to avoid a competition. the budget is small for extra's so the cheaper the better. Thanks for your help and thanks Parallax for a great forum.

A group of Boe-Bots shepherding a glowing ball in a dark room to a goal area might be challenging yet doable. Kind of like training a robot soccer team.

Some additional parts that might come in handy but are fairly inexpensive are the QTI line follower kits: http://www.parallax.com/detail.asp?product_id=28108

If you create the Stamp robot soccer team...then I'll work on the Stamp robot soccer team hooligans!

How about doing a version of the IEEE micromouse competition.· Each robot must navigate through a small maze.· The one which completes the maze in the shortest period of time wins.· More info can be found at· http://ewh.ieee.org/r6/coastal_la/MM_Page.htm

Thanks for the response guys. My students are brainstorming now. They will start the class in one week and have 15 weeks to get "r" done.

    Update from the Sofa:
The guys decided on building an automated house. I am going to take as many pics as I can on this project. I actally have an excellent video of a course run by Boe-Bots from last year. they are going to have cameras and controls throughout the house. They are on their own untill the end of the semester. I will post details later. thanks for the input.

We were just talking about automated lighting in our office today.· Basically they use passive IR to determine if a human (or near human lol) is in th eoffice and it turns on the light.

These guys here ( http://www.hvwtech.com/pages/products_view.asp?ProductID=95·) have a passive IR sensor that outputs 5V when active!

Might come in handy for some of your automation!

    cheers
