Stamp repair?

i've recently come into a small quantity of 'dead' stamps, mostly older V1.0 BS2s but also a few BS2Ps (3x -24 and 1x -40) and a BS2sx. From that I've observied in my stamp killing past, the majority culprit is reverse insertion, which very obviously kills the regulator. My question is, for those of you who have done a little stamp dissection, would it be reasonable for me to get new Vregs and try and repair them? New EEPROMs? New interpreter chips? The SMD rework isn't an issue for me, and if I can get a working BS2p for the cost of a free sample or an interpreter it'd make for a great addition to my stamp stable.

Thoughts?

It could be done, but I don't think it would be worth it. Unless you know for sure what needed replaced.

BTW: I solder with code ;)

I know for sure the Vreg is toast on the BS2s. The -p and the -sx exhibit the same symptoms, so I'm guessing they do too. I haven't had a chance to put them on the bench yet tho. Thhe Vreg is the easiest thing to change on the boards. I've never had a regulator fail like these have wiithout taking something with it however, hence my question. If all else fails, I'll buy a new set of chips and swap them in one at a time until I find out what croaked, but any pointers first would hasten that process.

And, of course, if anyone has dead stamps they want to get rid of, I'm more than happy to give their parts a good home wink.gif

So no one has tried to repair fried stamps? No one at all? Really? I don't believe that...I can't be the first one to want to resurrect these little glistening bits of silicon and epoxy can I?

While that is undoubtedly true, I'm trying to find stories from folks who have recussitated theirs. Parallax wasn't in a very sharing mood last time I called...

I cannot say I blame them...When people call my Computer Shop and ask me how they can fix their own computer, I am not really sharing either!· nono.gif

Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but if it is ONLY the regulator that is damaged....

Can't you just provide a regulated voltage supply and skip the repair?

It seems at most that you would have to remove the regulator to get the micro to function.

Well, I have a funny feeling that there is a lot more bad than just the Vreg. Call it an educated hunch.
