Need to locate someone I talk with a few days ago

Can anyone suggest how I can locate a posting I made to someone a few days ago?

They were asking for some particular parts, but I cannot seemed to find them.
I am beginning to wonder if they were here or on the Yahoo BasicStamp site.

The search engine is also "supposed" to find posts by member name. It does not appear to work as expected. I'll add that to the to-do list.

Jim, if I click on my name in the right hand colum all the posts I have made come up.· That seems to be working.· I haven't tried clicking on the member name on the left - the one with the avatar.

Jim, I clicked on the member name on the left, and the last 5 posts come up.· Maybe if you changed the limit from 5 to 10 that would help a bit.

Clicking on the member name to the left of the post will take to the member's profile.

The number of post shown is something like a magic value in the forum software. There are several places where this occurs, so changing the number on one place affects the others. I think we get better mileage out of correcting the seach engine to correctly locate N number of posts from a particular member.

    Hi everyone,
I only get the last Five posts (which is no good because I didn't know about the limit or I would have used the option before it because useless)

I suppost that there are performance trade offs in how much one can store, how much one can search, and how much one can sort.

In sum, five seems fine to me. -- BUT, I still can't find that message. I'll try search.

Yes ... in the search feature you can search by poster; enter your own ID and you'll see all your posts.

It looks like there is an issue in the search engine where the punctuation characters in Herzog's screen name are getting stripped off before the search is started.

    Jon,

·· When I enter my ID it doesn't find anything...I think the Search feature still needs a bit of work...

I searched again after the bove post and got 15.· Looks like maybe some of the older posts do not get included in the search.· Date limitation?

Remember to select "Posted By" in the "Search For" drop-down. When I put "Chris Savage" in and "Posted By" I got a whole bunch of results; same thing with "Newzed." ·I think the search function works as well as the input a user gives it.... tongue.gif

Well, that might work too...I just tried it, and I think I may have figured out what half my problem is...On most web pages you can hit ENTER/RETURN in a search box.· That's what I was doing, and even selecting Posted By was getting me nothing!· Then I hit the SUBMIT button, and wham!· Results!

    Here I am again.

When I search "Posted by" with someone else's name -· no problem.

When I search "Posted by" or "Posts" but use my own name -- NOTHING!

And yet, I see under my Avitar that I have posted 14 messages since I signed on.

So we appear to have a situation that you may not search under your own name.jumpin.gif

    Herzog,

I think that the earch engine is having some difficulty with your screen name. It appears that the punctuation at the beginning of your screen name is removed before the search is run.

Understood. Please forgive that my creativity has caused confusion.

I will change my screen name if I want to fully use this feature.

Human creative abilities to confound appear to be among of the reasons that the British have so much contempt for the computer [consider it really a dumb box]

Being an engineer, I was left wondering if changing your screen name would cause the system to go out to the seach engine and update the entries that referenced your screen name. I don't see that happening in the code, but I would be very interested to know if changing your screen name does allow you to find your posts in the search engine.

Yes, I have mastered the complex, run-on sentence. ;))

    Anything for Parallax.
Okay, I will change my name and do a test run for you.

Please forgive my English. It seems the longer I am in Asia, the less I can say with the mother tongue.

Yes, by removing the non-alphabetical characters, the search works perfectly.
Please forgive me for confounding everyone.
