Hi.·The moderators are providing a bit of leeway for the first·few days so·everyone can get used to the new site. I would expect that the totally off-topic posts will go away in a few days.

Sad to say, but your post counter will be reduced by the number of posts that are removed.

Please remember to fill out the Subject line when you post a new topic. It really helps other members.
    Thanks.

Ummm... can the moderator change the topic of a thread ? I really hate threads that are way off. "Newest Newbie Question" is my pet peeve.

Threads with (No Subject) are not very useful either. Moderators cannot change thread titles.

    Ah...

I can see that this thread is destine to deletion as it is off topic, but it is usful in that we now know that the most recently replied to thread goes to the top of the list in the forum.

That means the active thread stay near the top.

Another question I have is about archiving and getting old posts. Will some sort of archive be available for download at some time in the future ?

The thing you can count on is that the messages live on a Parallax server now so they will be far easier for us to archive and make useful for future users.

    Nice picture Jon.

Now we know that if one changes their avitar, it changes all the posts for that person.

Interesting that we can do that.

That's a common feature on all the forums I've used.
The same goes for anything else you put in your profile, so if you change your quote, that, too, changes on all posts.
On some forum it's popular to have a linked in graphic which is auto-generated, from a web-cam, the music player listing what it's playing or whatever else the user thinks 'looks cool'...

Odd, but I cannot get into this thread from the main page. It keeps redirecting me to sign in. Saying I do not have access to this forum.

    Other threads are accessable.

If this one is locked out as it is off topic, I would hope there would be a pop-up indicating that this thread is restricted and not the un-informative 'you do not have access to this forum' but, those are growing pains I guess.

Dave, let's take this one over to the Forum Support area. I have a similar report from yesterday that may be related to your experience.

It will be dumped next week. Our Administrator is being a bit forgiving for a few days to let everyone get used to the new forums.

Maybe I'm just cranky ... but I find the amount of post quoting to nearly the point of being an annoyance more than a help -- this is especially the case when users quote a post that is directly above their response. Zoiks, Shaggy....

Let me suggest that the forums will remain clean if we don't quote posts that are immediately above our responses.

    You're right Jon, you're just cranky!· nono.gif

But if it makes you feel better, I will try to quote less...I don't quote every post...What I find is that sometimes within a thread there is more than one person commenting on something, and quoting allows you to respond directly to that person without anyone having to look back to see what you're talking about.· Especially if it's not quite OT, but not a direct reply to the original message.

Now cheer up and write some more code for us!· tongue.gif

I'm always writing code. What a lucky guy I am ... I get paid to work with BASIC Stamp modules!
