New proptool and Wine

Running proptool 2.4under wine. All seems to work with just one small issue. Can't find any com ports it likes. OS = fedora33. Some other things work with wine comms. Am continuing to work on this, but if anyone has seen/ resolved this, please post what your solution was.

Thanks,
Frank

Same for me. PNut comms is fine but modern PropTool can't see anything. Both are in the one bottle, so can't say that's misconfigured. I didn't investigate and I know modern Wine's default port numbers for USB converters start high in the numbering, COM32 I think. I'd kind of assumed that was the reason, ie: PNut is okay with high numbers but PropTool maybe isn't.

PS: PropTool used to work. Chances are it is Wine that has changed its default behaviour.
PPS: Just tried PropTool v 1.3.2 and same story. Unzipped file date is 20 July 2012, so I'd say Wine is the one that changed. Possibly the issue is with how to assign a specific lower COMx number. It used to be as simple as plop down a symbolic link to the relevant device path ...

Hmm, no, not that, I've already got the new method dealt to in my bottle - https://wiki.winehq.org/index.php?title=Wine_User's_Guide&oldid=2519#Serial_and_Parallel_Ports

Oh, maybe it never did work. I thought it had. The old appdb listing says it didn't - https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=27799

  • PropTool is perfectly fine with any number COM port on Windows, that's not it.

Have you tried manually selecting the serial port in the PropTool settings?

I now think simplest solution is for Chip to push his method from PNut to PropTool.
