Where is Viewport that is not a 30 day trial like one on Viewport website?

Is it on any of the Parallax CD's?

http://onerobot.org/#ViewPort

The Contact us form there does not seem to work.

Messages to Hanno in the forum here have not gotten a reply.

OR

Should I just quit wasting time with it and get a real used logic analyzer off of Ebay?

That way we could use it on any micro or device.

  • The page that you linked to provides the software download. The download was the same for the 30 day trial, but stops working after 30 days. You can then purchase the various revisions on that same web page.

I have been in contact with Hanno recently, and he indicates he fixed to "Contact Us" problem.
  • Viewport was in the 2010 catalog on CD, but was not included in the files.

  • "The download was the same for the 30 day trial, but stops working after 30 days"

I uninstalled Viewport and downloaded another one and it said 'Trial version expired'.

Just tried Contact us. Here is same old message. "Cannot POST /contact "

    This is not amusing.

    Thank you Publison

I am going to look around for another software logic analyzer.

I think the Atmel AVR Jtag debugging has some logic analyzer functions built in to it.

I may be confused. Just saw a logic analyzer with JTAG interface.

    There may be no connection.

Here's something for the Propeller crowd. A Propeller based hardware logic analyzer.

  • Here is a good enough solution for now.

Sigrok software and Sparkfun USB logic analyzer.

    https://sigrok.org/

    https://learn.sparkfun.com/tutorials/using-the-usb-logic-analyzer-with-sigrok-pulseview/all

That is better than getting an unknown made in China logic analyzer off of Ebay.

Sparkfun usually knows what they are doing.
  • I have the Logic 8 from Saleae and it seems to work well. It seems to me that it used to be a lot cheaper though.

  • Thank you David Betz

Well. The Viewport does come with 'hand-holding'. Parallax lessons to figure out logic analyzers.

The Sigrock looks a little 'bare bones'.

All I know is two 'in the know' microcontroller guys have told me repeatedly to 'get a logic analyzer'.
  • I sent an email to Hanno. He is many time zones away. Hope to get answer back by tomorrow.

I bought a Logic Pro 16 and was amazed it went up $300 since I bought it.

Viewport is looking better. I bought the Ultimate at $149 which is a bargain IMHO.

Yes, I purchased the original Logic (8 logic inputs) for around $149 US...

Contact us at Viewport is working now.

Have not gotten a response yet but it is a start.

  • I have a Rigol MSO4034 scope with the serial trigger and decode Option-Bundle. I am very happy with it.
Recently they have released a MSO5000 series (7 instruments in 1) which is way cheaper, have a look at it.
BTW: the scope bandwidth is sw upgradable, ie: the hw is there, only the sw key is needed to unlock the function ;). Same for the various serial trigger and decode options

Also Siglent have a logic analyzer in their SDS1000X-E and SDS2000X at a still lower price. Also for these scopes seems the hw is all there and only the activation licenses are needed for the various options. I only heard of them but newer used one.

PS: On my FS I have Viewport V490, perhaps on the old notebook I have also older versions as I was used to download all of them at the time. If you need a specific release I can have a look if I still have it.

  • I use the SQ200. I've had it for a while but only started to use it a few weeks ago. It seem to be great but I'm still learning.

    US 169.45

    https://www.ikalogic.com/pages/logic-analyzer-and-pattern-generator-sq-series. I like the software.

  • I have is Logic Pro 16. I bought it back when they were first released maybe 4-5 years ago. I think I paid ~$450 for it. I was surprised to see they want $999 for one today. It works very well and I have used it for some projects. Just not sure I'd dump $1K on it when I just paid ~$1,500 for a Rigol 70MHz (Upgraded-able to 350MHz) with a 16 channel LA attachment.

One of the biggest things to look for in a LA, is the amount of memory in can store. My first was only like 2,000 transitions. Not really much when you're trying to record an SPI / I2C buss.
