It is March 14, or 3/14, the closest approximation to mathmatical pi.

Back at ya!

Reminds me of the old southern joke about the first boy ever in his family to go away to college. He comes home and his dad asks what he has learned. The boy says, "Pi r squared". The dad scrathes his head. "No son, Pie are round, Cornbread are squared."

Sorry...

Fitting since moms are usually the ones making the pies

@Whit: LOL
@mctrivia: So true. It is disappointing that my mom refuses to believe that "Pi day" is a national holiday and she refuses to make a pie. smile.gif

And [ahem] be sure to mark your calendars for PhiPi Day! That would be phi (the golden ratio = 1.6180339887...) times pi (3.14159265...) = 5.08320369... That's May eighth (or Ocho de Mayo for those who are not still hung over from Cinco de Mayo smile.gif ), and which just happens to be the day before Mother's Day in the U.S. this year.

Darn, I missed the party.

I bring gifts!

PI is 3.14...etc so what?

... infinite <-- 53562951413.1415926535 --> infinite

We are such a smart species, that we can't even resolve the circumference of a circle that has a diameter of 1.
(resolve beyond a symbol that represents an infinite set of numbers)

Over here it's 14/3, so I've never seen the point really (and today's Texas
Instruments' "Pi day" half-spam email was meaningless)

You can celebrate Pi Day on July 22, then! :)

True enough.

Though 3.14159265 is just a closer approximation of Pi. I use 3.14159265359 as that is close enough for most things.

And at 15:55 and 35.4 seconds it will be 1.14159265 (because 55 minutes and 35.4 seconds is 0.9265 hours).

And around that time I will celebrate Pi day with a St. Hubert Chicken Pot Pie for dinner followed by a slice of Very Cherry Pie for dessert.

• No, silly. Pie are round. Cornbread are square.

I'm quite impressed. Pi Day came and went peacefully, without a single negative peep from Tau Day lovers.

That's fabulous, people! That's real progress!

That's politicians for you. Couldn't even get rounding 3.14159 to two decimals right. No wonder the world is in such a sad shape.

Look at the bar of PI or TAU as the unrolled circumferece and use the number of legs of the symbol as divisor. One rule to build TAU and PI and wait! There's more: 90 degrees would be a 4 legged "PI" then... and peace on earth or at least between the PI- and TAU-people will be lasting for ever...

More Pi fun. Original sin vs cos.

• ercoerco Posts: 20,244
Mandelbrot set also gives Pi. Not tau!

Cool, with an ε of 0.0000000001 I get π ≈ 3.14157

Add another zero there and my simple minded JS blows up.
