P2 Subforum?

I wonder if we should see about adding a sub-forum to the Propeller Chip forum for "P2 Emulator" or something like that for all the threads related to the community activity that is revolving around the recently released FPGA configurations?

It would make it easier to locate the P2 related threads and keep them from overshadowing P1 activity.

    Hi

I don't think it is good idea.
Not in that early stage we are now

Can I ask why? It's just a way of keeping the P2 threads in a common place so we don't have to hunt for them.

    Hi

That can be good for us that know that.

But not for NEW users that still don't know how this forum function

I agree with Sapieha, the more users exposed to the "Power of Prop2" the better...

I don't know about a subforum for P2 emulator. The post does address a good question. Should there be a separate forum for P2?

A new user stumbling across the Prop1 and forum may very well be intimidated by the conversations over the P2. Those conversations are over most peoples heads.

    I agree.

Having just got setup, it took considerable time to locate and update on all the current discussion. Now I've got several bookmarks... There is still a considerable time before we get real chips. The discussion will grow considerably before then. Messy.

I think a Prop2 subforum would be dandy! I think in time it will be required, so why not start now? I don't agree with the arguments against it expressed in this thread so far...

Then when P2 becomes the mainstream do we swap the forums so that P1 is the sub-forum? P1 is six years old now and will have to make way for P2 as the updated Propeller chip. That's progressive, not intimidating. P1's been banged about a lot from trying to do everything which it can't but it will always have its place alongside P2 as a team. But P2 as the new flagship should never be left lurking in the shadows surely, that ain't right.

Why not add a Propeller II forum rather than a sub forum? Perhaps even move or copy the recent P2 posts to that forum so all the info is easier to find.

This sounds like what needs to be done.

That was my thinking too, but I didn't want to preempt, it is still too early and there aren't that many P2 threads, are there really? The trouble with moving it too early is that a chasm forms between the P1s and the P2s if you like and to cross later is very difficult. This is the "Propeller" forum so let's leave it like that at the moment to help Prop members become familiar with the P2 as the features are discussed even for the first time so that they too are on the ground floor and in on everything that is discussed.

A Propeller 2 forum makes more sense to me as well (than a sub-forum) - especially once there are enough P2 threads.

I'm OK with either one, and I like the P2 forum idea the best because it can just carry forward. Having them mixed isn't a good idea. That may well change over time, but right now it's not optimal.

Ah I missed the sub part. A separate forum is what I was agreeing to. BTW, is it officially " propeller 2" Now? Is the beanie logo going to be on the package?

A seperate P2 forum would be good if Parallax doesn't consider it to be too early for that.

A separate section alongside the existing Propeller forum would make sense. There is still alot of stuff I haven't done with Propeller 1 that I wouldn't like to see trod under by Prop2 conversation. The "churn" is already pretty high.

As a Parallax user that has (basically) no clue about things Propeller, I'd rather see a separate forum for the P2. It would keep the differences between the P1 & P2 from mixing, when I decide to go over to the "dark side" that is.

Yeah, I meant to be in support of a separate forum for P2, not a sub forum thingy like the PropGCC things. I would actually prefer the PropGCC ones be seperate forums too. In fact, I would make a new section for all the Prop/Prop2 forums and have them all be just forums instead of sub forums. I think the sections thing is a better organization format for forums than the sub forum thing, which has issues in the software (like marking read doesn't actually update properly without a reload).

Be careful what you wish for guys, because if you succeed in clearing this patch of turf then the P1 forum may suffer quite a brain drain. All the active P2 people are also very helpful P1 people. Don't be hasty, all in due time.

Why would the P1 forum change? I don't know about you guys, but I'll visit, hit the "what's new?" button, and then go from there. A topic of interest in the P1 forum would still be a topic of interest. I personally am still working on P1 stuff and would visit normally.

Really, this is just a forum, and the P1 section is one of many partitions.

IMHO, my reasons for supporting another forum partition for P2 are:

    1. Focusing the info in one place for easy updates, knowing what I've seen, etc...

    2. Reduce potential confusion in P1 forum.

    3. It has turned out that P2 activities are testing, as we learned today with RDQUAD. IMHO, that's better off partitioned as other test efforts are currently.

I'd still visit the P1 forum - P1 has a lot going for it, and I intend to keep using it as well as the P2

After thinking about it, I really like the separate P1 / P2 forum idea as it will reduce the "clutter" in both

Has anyone at Parallax considered the seperate P2 forum, or at least a P2 subforum in the main Propeller forum?

We have mulltiple P2 threads now and it would be nice to keep them together, it would also make it easier for Chip to see questions.

Yes, we're going to do this. It'll be a main forum called "Propeller 2".

I've started the process this morning. After the forum is created our moderators will be asked to relocate a number of P2 threads.

Lets add a Propeller II forum rather than a sub forum, and move or copy the recent P2 posts to that forum so all the info is easier to find.

Since the P2 will eventually have to have it's own forum we might as well do it now to save work later.
