My Peopeller won't SPIN

Finished assembling my board, checked all DC voltages, plugged in the Propeller and the other two chips.· Tried both USB2SER and my serial cable· but my PC can not find the Propeller,· The board is laid out exactly like the PropStick -· I think.· The only difference is· I am using a 2N2222A instead of a 2N3904.· I have attched the Express layout of the board.· Just remember you are looking at the botton of the board·- Pin 1 of all chips has a square pad.

I hope someone can help.· I would really like to get my Propeller SPINning.

Sid

Sometimes RX and TX get switched around because of their mirror-like naming conventions. Try switching them and see what happens.

Chip, my board is laid out just like the PropStick:

    DB9.2 to 3232.7
    DB9.3 to 3232.8
    DB9.4 to 3232.13
    3232.9 to Prop.A31
    3232.10 to Prop.A30 - pulled high

Could using the 2N2222A instead of the 2N3904 cause a problem?

I'll try anything you suggest.· Remember I'm using a built up PC board.

Well, as long as·a 3904 and 2222 have the same BCE pins, it should be fine.

I just checked and the pinouts of the 2N2222 and 2N3904 are 180 degrees different. You need to plug those 2N2222's in backwards!

    Hey Chip,

This could be a little confusing. If he's using a true 2N2222 (in the metal can), you're right: the pinout is reversed. But if what he's actually using is a PN2222 (TO-92), it has the same pinout as the 2N3904 (i.e. EBC, flat side up, pins down).

    Thanks, Chip.· Problem solved.· I installed a 2N2222A - in a metal can,
    TO-18, I think.· Couldn't find a data sheet for a TO-92.

Finally found a data sheet for the 2N2222A in a TO-92 -· I had it installed correctly.· Must have been a bad transistor.
