does anyone have any experiance with small scale ac dc conversions? i only need about 200mA. i know i can get a wall mount power supply but i would much rather incorporate the supply into my application.

I think that one of these transformers should work. Takes the volatage down to about 10V. Tie that into a 5v regulator, and you got 110vAC down to 5vDC

    Nick,

·· You didn't specify voltage, so I'll guess you meant 5V.· If you want to build your own on-board supply, you could buy the following at Radio Shack (Or pilfer them from something else):
    • 12.6V 300mA PCB Mount Mini-Transformer (273-1385)
    • PCB Mount Full Wave Bridge Rectifier (276-1152)
    • 100uF Radial Electrolytic Capacitor (272-1028)
    • .1uF Ceramic Disc Capacitor (272-135)
    • 7805 Voltage Regulator (276-1770)
    • 1000uF Radial Electrolytic Capacitor (272-1032) Almost forgot that one!

About $15.00 in parts and could easily be mounted on a PCB taking up very little real-estate.· If you think you might ever need more than 200mA, for just a couple of dollars more you could use transformer (273-1365) at 450mA, or (273-1352) at 1.2A (The regulator will only give you about 1A though, and you'll need a heat sink).

If you have any questions about how this all gets hooked up, let me know.

I would suggest getting those from www.goldmine-elec.com.
