Pretty easy, you just emit the "Power" IR code for various televisions in sequence, placing more popular television brand codes first, eventually the correct code will be emitted and the television will·turn off. The key is finding out what the respective codes are.

Your jamming might be accomplished by generating nonsensical IR noise to get the IR receive to reject the code even if someone else is emitting a proper code. Care must be taken which codes you use, though just ensuring the "Power" IR code isn't generated, you should be good because most receivers in the off state only look for a power code, changing the volume of an off television doesn't make much sense. If you burst at a rate much faster than any receiver expects may accomplish this, but accomplishing your jamming·will become a trial and error exercise.

As per your component distributors request look at this post, the first 5 links in the second message will be relevent for you.

Do a search, the info is out there since there is a multitude of universal controllers on the market, I would start by looking for industrious hobbists who've attempted to make thier own universal controllers.

www.yahoo.com "television ir codes" 2nd link: www.codeproject.com/netcf/PocketBeamer.asp?msg=834303 (this also pops as link #4 with "television ir format") There are too many factors to answer which would be more expensive. BTW if you think of·additional comments·afterwards and before another post has been made, you can just edit your previous post.

There is tons of free downloadable information (usually PDF's) on parallax's web site. from nuts and volts articles to stamps in class. You should be able to find most of what your looking for there.· There may be a few specifics on the different IR pulse widths you may need for the different tv's.
