Ok, I figure if I can post one article...I can post another!
Here's a circuit that basically does what an optoisolator does, except the diode and phototransistor are not in the same package.
With the use of some "super bright LEDs" you can have a visible rs232 link that also provides a neat light show!
They say keep the LEDs and phototrans 50cm away for maximum isolation...not sure if it would work further away in a darker room.
