FTDI Serial adapter

I purchased two FTDI Serial adapters from Parallax to get the convenience of two more serial ports. Unfortunately both units come up as the same Serial Port. If I configure one for COM4 the other becomes COM4 also. I have even tried configuring one adapter to COM3 on a different computer and then attaching it to this computer but it becomes COM4 anyway.

We have had no problems in the past with the FTDI products and have had multiple serial ports configured using the DLP-USB232M chips.

The CD that came with the adapters only contained advertizing, no drivers.
Getting the drivers off the FTDI web page didn't help as it reported the drivers were already installed. I assume they use the same driver as the DLP-USB232M.

I am running Win2000 if that could be a factor.
Any ideas how to trick one of them into being Com3?

Thanks, Paul

The port setting is not in the adapter, it's in your computer.

Go into Device Manager, right-click on the port you want to change, select Properties, click the Advanced button, then choose the port from the drop-down.

    Hello,

We tested it here on a Win 2k machine and it came up with two different com ports.· I'm not sure why it's not working on your machine.· You might try to uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling them again.

Jon, yep, I've done that a dozen times. Everytime I change the Com to another number both Serial adapters assume the new com port number.

Dave, OK, I'll try to uninstall and reinstall the drivers. I think something must have corrupted them somewhere.

    Thanks

    Paul,

    · In my business (Computers) I have seen devices get duplicated in the device manager...It's possible that the computer only sees the one unit, and it's installed twice.· Definately try removing everything and starting over.· Once you have both devices back in, you should have two independant ports.· Good luck!
