Windows NT problems with stampw

I have been tinkering with setting up the stampw.exe compiler and
having it run under NT with service pack 5. There is a fair amount of
user security set up on our network, such that a student user can't
access the C: drive directly (ie through My Computer, etc). The error
messages that I get are "Failed to set data for BGcolor" when I
launch the editor, and then the same when I try to exit the editor.
Eventually I get a access violation error like "access violation at
address 0041F391 of module stampw.exe. Read of address 000000BC".

I have tried to ghange the graphics card settings to a lower
resolution, but that didn't help. Any ideas anyone??

Can you just install it to a different drive? At work they don't want us
using the C drive either, they haven't went to the extreme a protecting it
from us. But they have partitioned the drive into a C: and a D:. We are
allowed to use the D: all we want, plus we have a personal drive on the
network. I installed the stamp software here so I could work on stuff at
lunch. I put it on the D: drive and didn't have any problems. We are also
    running NT 4.0 sp 5.

    Hope this helps!

There is info on this in a README or DOC. You have to run it the first time
with Administrator privilges becaues it writes to the registry. Then you set
the shortcut with a command line option with something like /noregistry to
prevent further attempts to write. Non-admin users will have to select the
COM port each time they run the program.

    Hi,

The problem you are having is due to an error in the software. It is
trying to create it's preference settings in an area of the Windows
Registry that happens to be protected from users other than the
administrator on Windows NT. This is something we didn't realize at the
time. We are fixing this problem and the next version (to be released at
the end of July) will include it. We have included a command-line switch
in the current version that will allow you to get rid of the problem in the
    mean time.

Simply enter /NOREGISTRY in the command-line of the properties of the
icon you created on your desktop (or create one if you haven't already).

There should have been a Windows Interface Readme.txt file that came with
the software. It describes this command-line switch plus a few other
    useful items.
