PPDB Rev A (Gray) Potentiometer Hardware Test

Developers

Going to test potentiometers with an ohmeter.

Yes, we are easily amused.

Any tips on this?

Thanks!

One lead of the ohmmeter on the wiper lead and one on one of the other two leads. Take measurements in evenly spaced steps between fully counter clockwise and fully clockwise.
  • To monitor the wiper with the Propeller, you'll either need an ADC chip like the MCP3208, a delta sigma circuit or a RC time circuit.

I'm pretty sure the PPDB doesn't include an ADC chip.

You are correct Duane. An ADC0831 is easy to install on the breadboard.

Somewhere their is a step by step section on it.

    Might be PEKit manual.

Will file your suggestion away for later.

    Thank you.

    Potentiometers work.

    Thanks!
  • Yeah, Parallax is pretty good about shipping product that works as designed. :)

  • Mr Johnny

    Don't look at me.

Some parallax manuals (might depend on the writer).

    Use the same approach.

    Hardware test before run experiment.

    Thank you.

I've been doing this a while (about 45 years). Let me suggest you use forum posts for circuit and code discussions. Announcing a successful test without sharing the details of it is not terribly useful.
  • And Jon, I agree. Same amount of time. Microcontrolleruser, the gentleman standing next to a blinking thing from a TV program is indeed correct.

    3 contacts. Left-middle-right.

connect left and right got value of potentiometer.

connect left middle ohmeter swung one way.

connect middle right swung the other way.

    Thank you!
