Temperature alarm circuit

I am trying to make a temperature sensing circuit so that I can run some fans after a certain temperature is reached. After setting up the circuit as per "The Microcontroller Application Cookbook" the LM34 temperature sensor becomes too hot to touch and begins to smoke. What do you think might be wrong?

  • Which circuit are you using? There are two in the book. Fig 3.30 and Fig 3.31. My guess is you might have wired it backwards. Are you applying 5 volts or 9 volts from a BOE or Homework Board, or is this on a breadboard?
  • The LM34 could be toast now.
