Gripper with Shield bot

Hi,
the site says the gripper kit is not compatible bith the shieldbot (basically the bOEBOT adapted for Arduino. Why is that? Any way to circumvent the problem?

Cheers,
Erik (about to resume teaching robotics)

  • The gripper has a brass rod pass under the control board to the servo in back. Since the Arduino is under the hood shield it gets in the way of the rod. If you used taller standoffs or used stacking headers to mount the Arduino on top, you could probably work around it.
  • We have one of those gripper kits for the Activity Bot, a couple Activity Bot and the shieldbot in question. I agree with Martin_H, the only reason it won't work "stock" is that the Arduino Uno is hanging there right where the rod goes through. I like his idea of just lifting the whole stack a little bit with taller standoffs - could use whatever you want - and I think that would work perfect. In fact, for the price of that gripper kit, it really wouldn't cost Parallax much to throw in 4 taller standoffs for use with the Shieldbot in the future.
