Arduino and overcomplicated, but fun. Another solution: just touch the handle to activate the high-current electromagnets and wait for the SLA batteries to die. :)

  • Ingenious with the bio tech. Could have been done with BS1?, BS2.

    I like the 80's Buick Rivera in the garage though.

    Yep, could have easily been done with a BS1 with one or two pushbutton switches and a secret combination code. And a capacitive switch, of course. That was the clever part, only turning the EM on when the handle is touched.
  • I would have used an RFID reader and a wristband tag. The thumbprint scanner took too long to process obviously which gave evidence of his specific/repeated hand position. The capacitive touch sensor to turn on the magnets was clever.

    Roger that. I wonder if there's any delay between touching and magnet on. If so, hit the handle quickly sideways to tip up one side and break the planar metal to metal grip. should be far easier to pick up then.
