How can accelerometers interface with GPS?

Well ....they don't directly. You can build a system that uses GPS and Accelerometers (with gyro chips) to have a total Inertial navigation unit.

But Accelerometers themselves do not directly interface with GPS units.

I hope this answers your question,

Given that this has a reply, perhaps our over zealous poster (and annoying private messenger) can delete the other two. (You can do this by viewing your other posts, and using the “X” key in the upper right corner.)

As to some constructive suggestions (I’m a sucker for helping those attempting to learn):

First, state the problem more clearly, both for yourself, and others. A GPS tells you where you are, and with multiple readings, it can also tell you what direction you are moving.

An accelerometer can tell you what direction and rate you are moving and/or what your orientation is, depending on how you mount it, and what other information you know.

So, what information are you supposed to be getting from each device, and what are you supposed to be doing with this information?

Next Step: There are plenty of discussions on both GPS and Accelerometers in the forums, and in the FREE documentation available from the Parallax site. Start by using the “Google” version of the Parallax search engine search.parallax.com (http://search.parallax.com) and see what you can find.

Then come back to this thread, and ask some specific questions.

I suspect your teacher is less interested in you actually solving the problem then learning how to take meaningful steps on finding out how to solve it.

Did anyone else get a PM from this guy, or am I the only "lucky one"?

Who would need an accelerometer in a Miata anyway?

All--

Maybe he could PM me. I don't know the answer. In fact, I do not know how to PM. But, my kids are real good at it. However, they can't spell GPS. This just goes to show there is good and bad in everything.

More on the kids: They can do something like PM on their TELEPHONES! Can you believe it? What's coming next, computers on a chip, or something?

Well I too received a PM....and replied.

I hope next time the inquisitive person will be more subtle.

I've been know to not ask the right way, so I can give anyone a chance.

I kind of suggested that to the young lad (I assume), and you can see the more polite of his responses above. Apparently he just wants answers to his homework, and doesn't care about learning an appropriate way to get said answers.

Then again, it's become my understanding that the world owes the next generations all the answers with none of the work, and this whole manners and appropriate communication thing is just highly over-rated.
