Sprinkler system sample code for BS2

Am new to BS2 programming, Have done the basic Boe-Bot bit but am more interested in building timing devices such as a sprinkler timer. Don't understand how to interface several push buttons (for selecting options) and display this on an LCD.·Need a sample code to get started....HELPPPPPPPPP
