I want to have the basic stamp conrtol all of the lights in my entire house. I want to put small push button switch in every room.· How can I have the basic stamp read 30 switchs.

Use the bs2p24 stamp and the X10 modules, you can then control any lamp in the house by sending signals over the power lines. http://forums.parallax.com/images/smilies/yeah.gif

If the 30 switches will be in close proximity you could use four 74HC165 Shift Registers to get 32 inputs using 3 I/O pins and 4 bytes of variable space.· See the Stamp Works Manual for an example.
