Most of the ones you can get are USB devices, not so good for the stamp applications.

Saelig Electronics is now selling the USBwiz from GHI Electronics. This is an interface to MMC/SD cards or USB devices (not both at the same time - you have to command it to switch from one to the other). It can talk serial, I2C, and SPI, knows about FAT16 and FAT32, talks to keychain USB flash drives, simple printers, and keyboards and mice. If the fingerprint reader can behave like a keyboard or other HID, this might allow its use from a Stamp. You can download a complete manual and tutorial on its use from GHI Electronics <http://www.ghielectronics.com/>. I've just gotten one and will be experimenting with it over the next few weeks.

Most readers are dumb terminals, meaning they rely on a PC to do the processing to determine a match. Someone found a stand-alone unit (for around $400 if I remember). Use search.parallax.com to find the thread.
