View Full Version : COM Port Cluster: RS232 to RS422 to RS422 to RS232

I have BS2sx that is standing in an open room taking temperature and humidity values. Those values are reported to a recieving unit (another BS2sx) with an RF reciever. The information that goes into the BS2sx is being read through the COM port into a MSAccess database.

Right now the receiver is right next to the computer, and I can use the programming cable. In the future, I want to have the receiver out in the room. This means that 200 ft of cable needs to connect the receiver to the computer. 200 ft is a bit much for the RS232, so we tried taking RS422/RS232 Converters and putting one at the computer end and one at the receiver end.

Any ideas as to why I would not have any communication going on?

You didn't connect the ground?

You didn't test the two adapters on the coil of cable before you installed it?

The adapters need power, and you're not providing any?

BTW, how do you know that RS232 won't go 200 feet?
