Here's our newest expansion for QuickStart;

(project page (http://www.gadgetgangster.com/205))

Quick Touch expands QuickStart with a color LCD + touchscreen and SD slot;

320x240, 2.4" Color LCD with touchscreen, capable of displaying true-color, 24-bit images
Eleven available I/O
Dual headers to connect screen directly to the board, or use a standard 40-pin IDE cable to mount remotely.
Onboard SD card slot

A video demo, schematic, and layout are on the project page (http://www.gadgetgangster.com/205). I also just put up a tutorial for using touchscreens, right here (http://www.gadgetgangster.com/news/54/530).

As usual, let me know if you have any questions, comments or feedback!

Sweet!

Now, for the BIG question. If we have an original Touchscreen Module with the breakout board for the Propeller Platform, are you selling just the QuickStart breakout boards and connectors to use with our touchscreen panel with theQuickStart?? I'm not sure I want to spend another $40 just to prototype with my Quickstart or my Propeller Platform. Once I have a need for one of these in a finished project (wait, I never finish projects), then I could see buying another touch panel and breakout board of teh needed type.

I'll let Nick answer this officially, (the head honcho), but I believe we had boards run for this with this exact situation in mind.

Yep, yep - bare boards are coming; They're overdue, especially on the Touchscreen Module. I don't have an ETA, but it's on the docket.

Looks interesting, I just order one along with a couple of the new Quick Start Protoboards.

Some order processing feedback
When ordering there is a page that comes up explaining shipping and implying you can choose
the express shipping but no where did I find something to click on to do that. I clicked Checkout
thinking I was then going to get the choice but the order processed with standard shipping,
No big deal and that is fine

@Tom,

GG ships from NE Ohio.

That order (packaged on my desk) will be in the hands of the post office in about 40 mins. As a result, you'll probably find them in your mailbox in the same amount of time as the Express mailing you were looking for.

@Nick,
This is a nice board!

I like how you can use the IDE cable on the board in addition to connecting on the Quickstart, and that it makes use of the SD card slot on the LCD module. Getting just the bare board sounds like what I would be after as well.

GG,

In thread #1 it says:
Quick Touch expands QuickStart with a color LCD + touchscreen and SD slot;

Where would the SD card slot be? On the back of the LCD pcb?

Nick McClick

@HShanko - yep, exactly. It's a full-size SD card slot, you can mount it with the regular sd.mount(0)

@trodos - the IDE cable is my favorite way to use the touchscreen - it makes it really easy to mount the screen in an enclosure.

Of course, you announce this the day after I ordered the other Quickstart boards. I guess they are now somewhere between NE OH and SW OH (their destination). Since it's in the same state, does OBC deliver?

OBC DOES deliver,

But it's gotta be to an area I am or going to be... :)
There's a special shipping code for this if it ever comes up.. Just ask!

And you were thinking of a trip to Cincinnati this weekend? I can get you into the zoo for free :) .

Ohio might just be the 'State of great zoos'. Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati. I went to the Columbus zoo last time I was in OH and had a lot of fun.

Anyway - we just put up Stacking headers,so you use the right angle header to connect the touchscreen and add another board to the QuickStart stack - they're right here (http://www.gadgetgangster.com/400).

If the bare Touchscreen PCB comes out before May I'll put that and a Quickstart on my b-day list. Since I live in NW PA I wonder if OBC would make a delivery here, but since there is no zoo here I think it is highly doubtful :).

Great board. Could you comment please on the three series resistors found on a number of touchscreen boards? These are in series with the SD lines and usually are around 2k in value. It has been found recently that these are designed for talking to 5V microcontrollers and the SD card does not work when talking to a 3.3V propeller. The simple solution is to remove these three resistors and put a solder blob across the resistor pads. Have you tested the SD socket with your new boards?

@drac - Yep, there are 2.2k resistors inline on the SD card slot side. I've tested the slot with all the SD cards (and microSD + Adapters) I have without any problems. In fact, in the demo video (here (http://www.vimeo.com/39006480)), I'm using the SD card to store images and load programs. It is a good point, though - I'll add a note to the project page in case anyone runs into an issue.

Thanks Nick. Hmm - it must be my SD card. If you are finding it all works fine, that means less soldering!

@Jeff
Package arrived today 3/31 with the mail at 4pm. Just about spot on
for two days from placing the order.
It even beat an Adafruit order that shipped the day before I ordered
the GG package. The Adafruit one is coming Priority USPS from NY.

Great service.

@Tom

Excellent. Figured you'd get it pretty quick with it being shipped from NE Ohio.
