I need to find a vendor for the 17 segment LEDS similiar to the ones on the PPDB. Sparkfun sells single common anode ones but the ones on the PPDB are common cathode. I can use single or double displays. Thanks!

Futurlec sell single and dual common cathode displays http://futurlec.com/LEDDisp.shtml and scroll down a bit. But they are 14 segment, not 17 segment.
Digi-Key has them in their catalogue, but they don't have any stock.

Look at Mouser:
http://www.mouser.com/Optoelectronics/LED-Displays/_/N-6j73g?P=1z0yqgtZ1z0j22y&Keyword=16+segment+LED&FS=True
Y (http://www.mouser.com/Optoelectronics/LED-Displays/_/N-6j73g?P=1z0yqgtZ1z0j22y&Keyword=16+segment+LED&FS=True)ou will want to search for 16 segment LEDs, the 17'th is the decimal point.

Thanks for the info! I'm developing a hexadecimal display using 2 MCP23S17 chips. Hopefully I'll expand the Propeller circuit with a 74C922 Keypad decoder for part of a COSMAC Elf simulator.
I'll probably get the ones from Mouser or just use 7 segment displays since that only requires 1 MCP23S17. If I do use the common anode ones from Sparkfun I'll have to add a 2N3904 transitor to switch on each display.
