View Full Version : The guys we work with

So I was working a crossword puzzle the other day and encountered this clue: "_______ Ohm." I hadn't the faintest. Which makes me wonder: how well do we really know the guys we work with every single day? Are we on a first-name basis with any of them? So here's a short quiz:

1. _______ Ohm
2. _______ Volta
3. _______ Ampère
4. _______ Tesla
5. _______ Faraday
6. _______ Hertz (no, it's not "Mega")
7. _______ Gauss
8. _______ Watt
9. _______ Henry
10. _______ Coulomb
11. _______ Weber

Without looking any of these up, score yourself and post your totals here. PLEASE DO NOT POST ANY ANSWERS IN THIS THREAD! My cat, Browser, stands ready to abuse his awesome moderator powers and delete any post that includes an answer to any of these questions.

I'll go first: I know 1 (only now, because of the crossword), 4, 5, 7 (well, only his middle name, as I discovered), and 8, for a total of 4.5.

Good luck!

-Phil

I got 4, 5 and 8. Number 2 was so close that I'm going to claim half a point for it - like guessing John when it is really Juan.

3.5 for me.

4 and one by his middle/nickname so I'l claim 4.5

Whatever happened to Maxwell, Siemen and most appropriately here Joule?

Ok, I like grilling as much as the next guy but you use your Weber grill every day? Awesome!

No, I like to use these Webershttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weber_carburetor.

Good for delivering lots of watts and wasting lots of joules:)

I knew 2, 4, 5, 8, and thought I knew 7. But it turns out I knew the middle name also, so I'm at a 4.5 as well.

OMG, you mean these are people?

And all this time I thought they were spirits, like that little demon known as Maxwell.

Larry L'Ampère, Curly Coulomb & Mho Ohm star in an upcoming movie, that should increase the popularity of those Stooges!

This is a trick question. Their first names are all "Milli" Milli Ohm, Milli Henry, Milli Watt...

(I got 4 of them)...

1 correct, but I thought I knew the middle name but got it wrong;
4,5,6 exactly,
2, 7 close but misspelled
10 partially correct

so I score 4.something

One of the other scientists (voltage law and current law) is another guy we work with.

(Oops! I just reread that list)

I still haven't recovered from the fact you've all forgotten poor Oersted.

Ill be honest I am bad with names and this is not exception. I knew "0". I know when I wiki this here in a minute it will all come back to me.

Consider this:
I think the internet is making my memory lazy because I dont / cant remember anything anymore, Google can refresh my brain.

Soon this will be a medical condition and the anti-Google pill will have a cure.

Good point.....I scored a one...reading a book that was written in 1853 about electrochemistry. It was enjoyable and read about the first battery which was a zinc and a copper circle with a cotton disc cover in saline and sandwiched in between them. I learned so much. But the point is I remembered an important persons name!
