Eye tracking replaces mouse? I'll bet not.

Just great. Download sites with ads that trigger just by looking at them. Ugh, I'll be sticking to the mouse.

The video says it emits "invisible light" to reflect on your eyes. Is this light infrared, ultraviolet etc? Any harm or eye problems due to intense light bouncing off your eyes?

It's most likely Near IR, which won't hurt your eyes at all. Your cornea (lens) is opaque to near IR light and longer, so it'll bounce right off. They're not using lots of watts here... only small LED based systems, so they're quite safe. If they were very high power IR sources (in the long wavelengths) then the most damage they'd do is burn your cornea... which is replaceable now. ;-)

This is an area I have tinkered / thought about for over 10 years, though not the way I (still) would approach it. The biggest issue in trying to get to what I wanted is the ability to know not only where the eyes are looking, but at what distance and where the head is in space as well. This seems to assume the person is looking at a fixed range and distance. What I had in mind would require much more capability. Applications (like theirs) primarily special needs, but weapons systems control as well. Any one want to sell me more time once I hit the lottery??

Seems likely that it depends on your head being fairly stationary, too. What happens when I move my head a bit, did I just click & order whatever was in the popup window I glanced at?

Maybe it's not entirely practical yet, but it is a good beginning. Long ago I wished for something like this. Good luck to the developers.

Hmm... So it's not bad for your eyes. How does the computer know when you click the mouse or just move the mouse?

I see this as horrible technology for us guys..

Flash a scantly dressed girl on the screen while I'm innocently surfing the web and blammo I've clicked on an ad. Ugh!
