I accidentally fried my second BeagleBoard xM in trying to migrate to ARM, and I realized if these things are so easy to fry what does that mean for a customer. At $150 USD that hurt.
I will check out the Raspberry Pi once it is out, though I think that the Propeller Proto board will be my primary from here on out (at least till the Propeller II comes along).

I've ordered one of the new BeagleBone boards. Mouser is waiting for export approval.
What did you do to your BeagleBoards?

Used the DVI at the same time as Ethernet and 3 USB ports, over current killed them.

Though I would note that Risc OS flies on them.

What were you using on the 3 USB ports? Each should be alloted only 500ma max.
And yes, Parallax has always managed to provide products at the rugged end of the scale. After, they cater to a great deal of novices. Still, I really like the Beagleboard and the Pandaboard even better. Digikey dropped shipment of a Pandaboard to me because I hadn't provided a company name here in Taiwan. I guess this is one of those export requirements.

I think that the DVI to VGA converter is what topped the limit (it draws 370ma).

So, if you use the DVI without VGA - you are in safer territory? I am finding it a bit odd that a brown out would cause permanent damage.

No not brown out, actual overcurrent (it had enough current and drew more than it could handle).
