Time to vote your favorite Quickstart Crap Game (http://forums.parallax.com/showthread.php?135316-Quickstart-Crap-Games-Contest).

The system won't let us have more than 5 options, so you'll have to post your favorite to the thread and I'll tally them up!

Here's the list:

Quickstart Reflex
DIY POV
Connect Four
Touch Buttons Demo
Snake
MatchIt
Simon
Cogs of War

OBC, How long is the survey running? I've not had a chance to try many of them, except my own.

Quickstart Reflex ?
DIY POV - I couldn't see the 'pov' part of it. Maybe my 'speed' was too slow.
Connect Four - ?
Touch Buttons Demo -
Snake - haven't tried it yet
MatchIt - I still can not get a very high score; need to check out my 'touchpad' routine for any bug(s). I like this one, of course.
Simon - haven't tried it yet
Cogs of War - haven't tried it yet

Hope to get to them Sunday.

I congratulate all entrants. (I cannot vote because I don't have the time at present to look at your efforts)

Here's my voting and comments.

Quickstart Reflex - runs too fast; on runs once, required reload to RAM............................................... .....................................2 of 10
DIY POV - I couldn't see the 'pov' part of it. Did note some pattern with dots and lines?............................................ ...............4 of 10 for attempt
Connect Four - not too hard to play.............................................. .................................................. ................................................4 of 10
Touch Buttons Demo - sequencing of LEDs. Erratic at times; had to reload to RAM............................................... ...............3 of 10
Snake - couldn't get it to run (unless I was expecting something else. Don't have enough time to figure out problem.........2 of 10
MatchIt - not easy to get a very high score (like > 10). Need to improve my 'touchpad' routine.. I like this one, of course....5 of 10
Simon - difficult for me to recall sequence and to hit the proper pads. But a nice implementation.................................... ......6 of 10
Cogs of War - this one gets 'stuck' for some reason. No time to debug............................................. ..........................................4 of 10

About Snake: Maybe you missed the PST-part. You load it to RAM and then start PST to see the game running there.

I think I enjoyed Connect4 and Snake the best, so I'm going to give them both 8 of 10. :)

I've not used PST before. I assumed that would talk to the terminal in Brad's 'bst'. Doesn't. Sorry I messed up.

Well .. and I don't know Brad's terminal ... It's important to have this 'set position' capability of PST. So, if it's compatible - what I'd expect - then it should work.

I'm surprised to see how few voted on the QS crap games. I wonder how many or few bought one or more QS boards? I'd expect far fewer to work on a 'crap game'. Wot happen?

Put me down for Snake. Many fond memories playing this for the Apple ][+ back in the day.

I didn't get the QS board, just because I didn't need one. Nice kit though! Want one, but that's a different thing.

I didn't NEED a QS board, but wanted it for several reasons: cute, small, USB powered, expandable with the surface mount 2 x 20 neader (originally only $20), had the 8 LEDs and 8 touchpads. Ready for many uses. Of course, I'm sort of a electronics junkie (my wife thinks). But for my use, a really good deal. Almost too small for adult male fingers though, as far as the touchpads are concerned.

OBS,

When will the tally for QS crap games be posted?

Friday night! Then I'll update the first page of the contest with links/instructions to each program.

Great contest! I'm pleased that several contributed to the idea!

thanks Jeff.

I anticipated that more prople bought at least one QuickStart board. If they did, guess not many had time to have fun and work on a game. I learned a few things doing MatchIt I'd not run into before; so was additionally educational.

I'd guess OBC got too busy or something. No TALLY yet that I can find.

Ups .... how comes???

Unfortunately the Quickstart board I ordered did no arrive in time to vote as well.

Ok, what's next? Shall I add more comments? Documentation? Lessons for beginners? The bug-quest (remember, there are still minor bugs in it)? Some more lessons to extend it with levels? Some advice to use TV or VGA instead?

Serious, if there is some interest, I'd propably spend some more hours for something like that.

By the way ... what are the current highscores? Did someone use up all 499 possible snake-pieces?

I manged to get snake somewhere into the high 300's before I crashed.. great game, btw!

I would like to invite everyone who participated to spruce up their entry message with detailed instructions where valid, etc.

It would be ideal to create a perfect Quickstart samples thread from this contest.

Well I received my quickstart board and so far am loving it, just playing around at the moment loading the crap games, just come across a small problem in trying to get the snake game to work properly, I'm not sure if i'm understanding the hierachy of the objects and code, I have all the files unzipped and in a single folder and open the prop tool editor by double clicking the snake.spin file and it opens in a tab but when I load it, all i see in the PST is a few garbled characters but no menu.
The txt file shows a slightly more complex hierachy with the objects and main file compared to the other games so do I have to make sure certain files go into seperate sub folders or something like that?
As you can read i'm slightly confused and probably am missing something very obvious here, please could someone point me into the right direction as to how the files are loaded, is there an order to how you load them perhaps?

No filestructure needed, if it compiles everything is fine!

The problem is that the bitrate you set in PST does not match with the bitrate set in snake. Maybe you can find it by yourself? It's all written in the code;o)

Thank you, the baud rate was at the default setting instead of 57600, although I found this by experimentation as I couldn't work out the rate from the code, I'm an absolute beginner with the prop so it will take me time trying to figure out stuff like that

edit-after much searching I found the rate of 57600 in the CogOS IO(Term) Tab under kb.start

Once again thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

I haven't gotten around to try out these games. But, I will have to try them without the Quick Start board and do it with the setup I did for the Spinneret contest. But, I will have to look at the code to see if it will work with my setup.
