View Full Version : Diptrace 3D preview!

I hope I'm not late to the party, but I just got the latest version of Diptrace (v126.96.36.199) and they've added 3D preview to it!
It's pretty well implemented too, my graphics card usually struggles with things like this but it's smooth and responsive, I'm impressed.

You aren't late to the party since the full release was announced today, but the beta version of the 3D was available back in March. It works pretty nicely, I hope the full release brings a lot more 3D parts with it. Check out my work on making a Gadget Gangster Propeller Platform USB 3D board on this thread (http://forums.parallax.com/showthread.php?130511). Post #8 has the blue board version I did. Can't wait to get 2.2 installed.........

2,580 3D components. With those, I was able to put all but a dozen or so parts in for 3D preview. It's also really easy to put in the 3D patterns into existing designs.
It's also a lot of fun to mess with the color scheme of your board, to see what your board would look like with color options we don't see a point in paying for (like black solder mask with red silk always looks cool).

I wish there were more connector models though, I can't seem to find 2-way pin headers and decent SMD LEDs. It would be really fantastic to be able to populate the entire board 100% with accurate 3D models. But I suspect that would be an unrealistic expectation for 98% of designers, even if they are using something high-end like Altium Designer or whatever. But for Diptrace to have this functionality at all (lets face it, Diptrace is a low-to-middle-range toolset) is something I wouldn't have dared to hope for.

Is it free or do you have to pay for the 3D version?

I would imagine it's free, just like everything else DipTrace does. You'll just have a limit on the number of pads your design can have.

Does anybody have a download link for the 3D version?

It's just part of the package. Just download version 2.2.

I just updated to 2.2 and I'm really liking it. It's a lot easier for changing trace widths within the same trace.
