I need a name for a new Propeller emulator I'm writing. Its based off the code from Gear, but I'm working on threading it and optimizing it for speed (I'm hoping for close to real time execution). So back to the point, any suggestions for names?

Gear is already taken here (http://gear-emu.sourceforge.net/)

What about Propellent

Gearbox was suggested, based on the name Gear. Good name IMHO.

I have to admit I am rather fond of Gearbox

I'd suggest you use Mono to run/develop it it, so it will be usable in Linux and OSX (Gear had rendering problems with Mono on Linux).

Gearbox is a nice name !

Gear has rendering problems with mono on Mac OS, too.

How about TurboProp?

TurboProp is the preferred name of the Propeller II chip. :-)

(You hear that Ken/Chip... we want to make sure that's the public name, too!!!)

Really! I think it's lame and overused!

Hmmm... I'm not aware of it being used on anything else. (Also, as a pilot, I love it... a pilot would always want to fly a turbo prop over a standard propeller aircraft any day! :) )

I'm using Visual Studio and I'm too cheap to shell out for the Mono VS tools, but I'll keep mono in mind while I develop. However this may all be irrelevant as I might be making all the code native (ie. not .net) , but I'll be sure to use a cross-platform GUI library

I recommend Qt. http://qt.nokia.com/

Works across Windows, Mac, Linux and Nokia mobile phones. Comes with a great IDE.

I am curious to see your emulator do something. Post some screenshots!

Since it would be useful for predicting how code will work before loading it into a real Prop,
I would suggest the name "PreCog".

Hopefully the makers of "Minority Report" won't come after you.

I could post some screenshots but they would be useless as it would look exactly the same as Gear (http://sourceforge.net/projects/gear-emu/), all the changes I've made are under the hood.
