BS2 survived 8v on VDD for a year !

Ok I have a HW board that I used for the T Box (T Hunt controller) .

My radio's mic plug puts out 8V to run the Mic's guts so I taped in to it for my T Box .
I ran the power to V in as its not 5V ..
and it ran great for many months off that power input .

Un known to me I tied Vin to VDD from a solder bridge .....Opps!
so the whole time Vdd was getting 8V!
.. So yesterday I was going to run the T Box off a the radios 12V in because i am using it with a radio that has no Mic Power out
.
And I did not want to kill my 9V Batt
it worked for 4 seconds and Poof !

there goes the stamp !
now its dead..

but I am amazed that for a year that thing ran with out issues on the 8 volts I fed it and did not choke right then anf there

and only after I put 12V to it did it fail

That is cool though...I'm surprised it ran that long. Show you that Parallax does look at what parts they put in their products.

Ok I was gutting the board for its Dsub and reset Tact switch and I had a idea ! the BS2 has a brown out detector .

what if it died from the Over Voltage incendent ...
So in typical "Peter'olgy" sense I removed it just as a last cause ....
I applied a 9 V batt (mind you I removed the short by now )
and behold the LED Power light is coming on !!!
and 5V is back on the VDD !
So I added a speaker to where the audio out is for the transmitter.. and its putting out the Morse code I wrote to it when I made it !
OMG it has risen from the dead !

So I am putting the Dsub back on and the Reset Tact switch and seeing if this thing will live a few more years...



What harm could removing the brownout chip do ?

My guess's it will not like being underpowered .. ever ..
I will add photos as soon as I get my cam back from a friend..

Ok it is working BUT it will not take a new programs so its stuck as a Thunt Tbox for the rest of its life ..
