When the propeller is in normal operation (no programmer attached) should the reset pin be pulled up or down or be left floating?

Left floating, only if /BOE is tied to Vss. Otherwise, you will need a pullup resistor.

I'm having trouble understanding this floating reset business. Regardless of /BOE, it seems like a floating reset is just asking for trouble. Can someone please explain the rationale?

The reset line gains a pull up when /BOE os held low but is the actual value of the pull up quoted anywhere ?
ie - is it 10K ish, etc ???

I believe it's more like 5K, which is plenty stiff to preclude requiring one externally.

That is a good value for the pull up. I was worrying that the value would have been weak, 100K ish, and end up being "almost floating"

How come BOEn appears to be floating in the protoboard schematic?

The 1-5-07 cct shows it decked. So it must just be a "typo"

parallax + protoboard then google. Same cct, just more ink.

Thanks.
OK, I think you're referring to this document: www.parallax.com/dl/docs/prod/prop/Propeller-ProtoBoard-v1.1.pdf (http://www.parallax.com/dl/docs/prod/prop/Propeller-ProtoBoard-v1.1.pdf)
That one does show BOEn tied to ground. But it's an old version (1.1). The "typo" is in 1.3. Hopefully it'll be corrected in 1.4.

Has this error been sent to Parallax Support already?

I would do it, but who'd I send it to?
www.parallax.com/Company/ContactUs/tabid/66/Default.aspx (http://www.parallax.com/Company/ContactUs/tabid/66/Default.aspx) says support(at)parallax.com is for BASIC Stamp and SX support and doesn't say anything about Propeller support.

@mpark, I've sent propeller questions to the support email address you mention in the rare cases when I have not been able to find an answer in the propeller forum. They usually respond, but not always. You could also try giving them a call.

David Carrier is the new point man for Prop support, BTW. But don't forget: Parallax is off until 4 Jan. 2010.
