To encourage more people to use the Propeller in their products,
I now propose that this thread be used to display and sell any product that uses the Propeller as the main controller.

Your post should include

1. A short description on what the product does
2. Pictures of the product, outside and inside the enclosure
3. Selling price and shipping costs
4. Technical Specifications (if any)
5. Schematic diagram (if applicable)

I also propose that any chat / trivial postings on this thread be periodically removed by the administrator from time to time to keep this thread as a clean showcase of Propeller products.

Not sure if it would be more appropriate to post here, or in the "completed projects" forum here at Parallax.

I have a project that is finished and being manufactured as we speak, but the "completed projects" forum wants you to post the code and schematics, and since it is a commercial project, I really would rather not (even though it is simple and most in here would figure it out quickly), so I haven't posted anything there. I don't wish to upset the Parallax Gods.

William,

For Sale advertisements are not allowed in the Propeller Forum. Such items can typically be posted in the Sandbox forum if they’re not of a commercial nature. Also posting commercial products for sale constitutes SPAM, which we are trying to avoid our members having to see. I can see that you have the best intentions of promoting the Propeller but the manner of doing it would violate the forum guidelines. Simply mentioning new Propeller based products in the Sandbox would be more appropriate. I can see if our marketing department would want a thread announcing Propeller based products and perhaps providing a web address to their page. But selling them through the thread would start a trend we don’t want. Trying to maintain such a page would take additional resources as well which we don’t have available.

John,

Completed Projects is intended for the free exchange of member-created projects and we encourage the posting of the complete information on the project including code and schematics. Commercial products would be out of place there, however they could be posted to our website under Customer Applications where we do not necessarily require all that information. I hope this helps clarify things. Take care.

I guess one can wade through the thousands of basic stamp projects to find propeller projects.
Parallax means Basic Stamp to most customers though, so it's a fitting state of mind-share.

Perhaps the thread would be acceptable and more useful if the original idea was not "for sale".

What about having the thread thesis be:

"Sharing commercial Propeller Products".

Hello everyone,

Our Marketing manager reminded me that we do have a page recognizing and promoting third-party products using the Propeller Chip. Please see the link below and be sure to visit each company website that interests you. There are some really interesting products that are well thought-out and make good use of the Propeller chip. Take care.

What I would really like to see is industrial applications of the propeller. Not just products that you can buy like the on the page Chris linked to, but things that are made for some big industrial process. For example, in the 2009 catalog there is an interview with a propeller developer, and he mentioned how easy it was, fast, extendable, ... and so on, but he never mentioned what he really made. I could just about exploded with eagerness to learn what it was that he was developing. And my guess is that the information isn't classified in any sense of the word, it's just that nobody has taken the time to write it out.

So, a page with propeller products that doesn't fit into the category of commercial end consumer oriented stuff would be appreciated.

If you guys can wait about a year I'll have something very nice for you all.

The propeller 2 kinda, needs to come out first before I can build my project however... If its coming out this year.

I always noticed many forumers who are offering some things "for sale" albeit in a subtle manner in the forums.
Don't get me wrong, I am not against selling things, especially if there is a "Propeller inside."
So, why not do away with the subtleties and get on with business?

The "Third Party Products Page" is too slow to update because it has to go through the marketing dept.
Why weigh down the marketing dept to update the 3rd Party Products Page
when Parallax don't make money from 3rd party products?
Why not appoint one forumer to administer this thread instead?

I believe Chris made it VERY clear "why not".

William,

Don’t misunderstand me…your idea has merit it is just that we have a place for everything so that resources are divided more evenly. A forum member would not be able to maintain the type of thread you mentioned because they would not be able to delete individual messages or post to a locked thread. Anyone would be able to ask questions or post irrelevant material necessitating maintenance by a moderator. I think it would also end up being a sticky, which we’re starting to get too many of those as well. For the time being I think we’ll stick with the methods we have now. Take care.

If we could just get some of the developers to post in the completed projects forum that that would be a start. I understand that they may want to keep source code tightly held, and perhaps schematics as well, but surely that can post pictures and a description of how it works? I think that would be highly beneficial to the propeller community.

SRLM,

Please see my reply to John further up the thread as to why the Completed Projects forum would be off-topic for most commercial products. Take care.
