Hello,

I'm trying to program my BS2SX chip using my laptop. However my laptop doesn't come with a serial port. I've read numerous websites about serial port emulators and usb to serial converters. But there are also an equal number of websites saying that the methods would not work.

Is there any tested method that anyone knows. I really need to know how to do this. I have to program my chip on the move.

Please Help. Thank you.

Regards,

Parallax sells a USB to serial adapter that works for programming Stamps. What kind of board are you using with your BS2sx? Many of them have a DB9 serial plug which works with this adapter: www.parallax.com/Store/Accessories/CablesConverters/tabid/166/CategoryID/40/List/0/Level/a/ProductID/378/Default.aspx?SortField=ProductName%2cProductName (http://www.parallax.com/Store/Accessories/CablesConverters/tabid/166/CategoryID/40/List/0/Level/a/ProductID/378/Default.aspx?SortField=ProductName%2cProductName)

Note that you must install the I/O drivers from Parallax or the chip manufacturer FTDI before plugging in the USB adapter. The default Windows drivers do not work properly.

FTDI sells other USB to serial adapters that can be used and you can also use Keyspan's High Speed Serial Adapter.
